The City of Dunedin, on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, is located north of Clearwater in Pinellas County and is one of the oldest towns in Florida. Its official history starts way back in the early 1850’s when an official title deed for property was issued to a Mr. Garrison.

It wasn’t until the late 1850’s however that the town was officially named Dunedin when two Scottish merchants organized a petition. Dunedin was the original name of Edinburgh in Scotland, the hometown of many of the early settlers to this area, so the petition was strongly supported by the townsfolk.

The town’s Scottish traditions are still remembered and are celebrated every year with the staging of the Highland Games and Spring Clan Gathering in April. This tradition of Scottish games, competitions, music, authentic Scottish food, and tests of strength and skill, takes the town back to its Celtic roots. The festival attracts visitors from around the world who come to participate in the event. Three pipe and drum bands from Dunedin perform in contests with bands from regions far and wide.
