Maitland was originally named after the fort on the western shore of Lake Fumecheliga built during the Second Seminole Indian War in 1838. Progressive leaders incorporated the city in 1885 as Lake Maitland and began developing the municipal services so essential to the success of the town. As commerce increased, the Chamber of Commerce sought entrepreneurs to settle in Lake Maitland in the mid-1920’s.
The beautiful year-round climate in this area has always attracted visitors but with the advent of Walt Disney World in Orlando, Maitland has become even more popular and many tourist-related industries have grown up in the area.
