New Port Richey Florida Homes

Contact Rigler Realty to sell your home in Central Florida’s ---
New Port Richey and Port Richey

These twin communities with ready access to the sun-drenched beaches of Florida’s Pasco County were until recently, best known as retirement villages. Bordered by horse and cattle ranches to the east, and the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the West, that demographic makeup is changing rapidly.

The 20,000 residents who now call these communities home are a diverse mix of self- employed business people, professionals, tradespersons, retirees, young families and empty nesters. They are drawn here by real estate bargains,
the relaxed lifestyle in this largely unspoiled natural wonderland and the proximity to employment opportunities in Tampa Bay’s commercial centers. Tampa and Clearwater, two of Florida’s largest cities, are just over a half an hour’s drive away and all the opportunities offered by the manufacturing industries of Pinellas County are an easy commute.

SELL YOUR NEW PORT RICHEY HOME

Located on the Cotee River, New Port Richey has direct access to the Gulf of Mexico, a year round aquatic playground for sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming or simply strolling along some of the world’s best beaches. The Gulf is also a sport fisherman’s paradise. Formed some 65 million years ago by a meteorite strike, this 620,000 square mile body of water is up to two miles deep in the area know as “the Grand Canyon of the Sea.”

TarponThe Gulf is well known around here for its calm conditions and just offshore from the mouth of the Cotee River is an area famous for catches of tarpon. This local heavyweight can tip the scales at over 200 lb and puts up a real fight when hooked. The nearby town of Tarpon Springs developed an industry around this majestic fish that rumor says locals can cook twenty-three different ways. Visit one of the seafood restaurants in New Port Richey for a meal with tarpon as the appetizer.

Apart from tarpon you can “burley up” here in the Gulf for kingfish, cobia, tuna, amberjack, spanish mackerel, barracuda, mahi, and various species of shark that are excellent eating.

KayakingFreshwater enthusiasts are also well catered for with the numerous well-stocked lakes, rivers and streams in the area. Many are in protected wilderness parks and are ideal for boating, canoeing and kayaking as well as fishing.

And if you are a golfer there are a number of public and private courses to choose from. Courses that cater to the weekend hacker and PGA caliber layouts to challenge the better players.

And as part of the of Florida’s Nature Coast, there are hundreds of acres of wilderness parks and unspoiled lands for hiking, canoeing, fishing, and camping close to Port Richey. Here much of Florida’s wildlife …alligators, flamingoes, black bears, pelicans, manatees and sea turtles…still thrive in a natural habitat.

A trip to Homosassa Springs where you can swim with the manatees in the wild, is remembered by many as the highlight of their visit to Florida—much more memorable than a visit with Mickey! These creatures have remained unchanged from ancient times and are said to have evolved from plant-eating mammals. They graze in underwater herds in the warm waters and estuaries from of Florida’s Nature Coast from December to March.

King’s Bay, a wildlife sanctuary, has the heaviest population of manatees in the world and is a unique marine environment especially suited for these peaceful creatures of the sea, often called sea cows.

With the influx of families has come an expansion of the local school system to cater for the growing numbers of children now living in the area. There are fifteen local elementary, middle or high schools to cater for the growing school age population.

And when it’s time for college there is a wide range to choose from, including the 27,000 student University of South Florida that is just 35 miles away in Tampa, or the well-regarded University of Tampa. Closer to home, the Pasco Hernando Community College, St. Leo University and the Florida Southern College offer two and four-year degrees in numerous, diverse disciplines.
