Piggy-backing on the emerging highway system started during the 1930’s and a renewed sense of national optimism following the Second World War, Central Florida became a magnet for a new wave of immigration. A virtual hub for all the delights of Central Florida---- Orlando, Gulf of Mexico beaches, wilderness areas, barrier island resorts etc.---and with a full compliment of services---rail, roads, communications, schools etc.---the now incorporated Pinellas Park experienced rapid growth. Rapid growth that saw the population reach nearly 12,000 by 1960. And then double by 1970. And double again by the mid 80’s. Businesses that range from sole operators who commute to work electronically to major corporations that employ thousands of area residents.
