The Spring Hill area is now a community of 70,000 people and is located some 45 miles north of Tampa, in Hernando County, on Florida’s west coast. The town center is just four miles from the beautiful Gulf of Mexico and the sugary white sands of Hernando Beach.

Epcot OrlandoAnd if this isn’t enough Spring Hill is just an hour’s drive from Orlando, where you’ll find America’s best-loved theme parks and the non-stop excitement that is central Florida.

Although retirees have long been attracted to Spring Hill, the recent completion of the Sun Coast Parkway has made the region a highly desirable residential community for business people and young families. There is now ready access to the nearby commercial centers of Tampa, Clearwater and St Petersburg. That has made this part of Hernando County one of the fastest-growing areas in Florida. A great place to live and work. A great place to retire. A great place for real estate investors.

Along with Pinellas, Pasco and Hillsboro Counties, Hernando County forms part of the four-region Tampa Bay MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area). Hernando County covers over 300,000 acres and stretches 37 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, which forms the western boundary, to the meandering Withlacoochee River boundary on the east.

There are now 150,000 residents in the county, serviced by 3 acute care hospitals. These three hospitals have created employment opportunities for many professional health care workers who have purchased homes in Spring Hill

There are 18 public schools in Hernando County, two large public libraries and a junior college that offers two and four-year degree programs in diverse range of disciplines.

Spring Hill River

As the geographic center of our State and a part of the region known as Florida’s “Nature Coast,” Hernando County is an area of natural springs, crystal-clear rivers, streams and lakes. The region has picturesque farmlands and a majestic oceanfront coastline of pristine beauty, and is Florida’s northern gateway to the Tampa Bay region.

For Spring Hill residents and visitors alike, outdoor recreation remains a strong attraction. The waterways have some of the finest fresh water fishing in the nation, and the nearby Gulf waters along Hernando Beach are famous for catches of a local fish known as the tarpon. The nearby town of Tarpon Springs was named after this local delicacy.

The area also has many paved trails for hiking and biking, along with wonderful facilities for canoeing and numerous first class golf courses where green fees don’t cost a fortune. With temperatures averaging 60 degrees in January, outdoor recreation and visitor numbers are high throughout the year.

Initially developed by the Deltona Corporation in the 1960’s, Spring Hill has experienced strong growth and impressive improvements in prosperity and infrastructure since that time. Many Spring Hill residents are involved in civic affairs and community activities. This involvement has added to the region’s cultural diversity, as evidenced by the local theatre, art shows, an orchestra of regional talent and a locally supported wildlife sanctuary that attracts bird watchers from all over the country.

Weeki Wachee, three miles away, is Florida’s only natural spring water park. Located in a 6,000-acre protected wildlife refuge on the way to Hernando Beach from Spring Hill, this quaint little town is home to the Weeki Wachee City of Mermaids show. This annual event features underwater mermaid shows, and has wilderness river cruises, petting zoos and spectacular water slides for the children. Or your grandchildren.
